Starting February 29, 2024, Mexican citizens traveling to Canada must meet new requirements.

 

Starting at 11:30 p.m. (Eastern Time) on February 29, 2024, Mexican citizens traveling to Canada:

 

1.- They must meet new requirements to obtain an electronic travel authorization (eTA). ​

 

2.- They must apply for a visitor visa (if they no longer meet the requirements to obtain an eTA).

 

If you had obtained an eTA with your Mexican passport before 11:30 p.m. (Eastern Time) on February 29, 2024 and do not have a valid work permit or study permit, your eTA is now canceled and you will no longer You can use it to travel to Canada.

 

These changes apply even if you have already booked your trip. Having a prior travel reservation or a valid eTA is not a guarantee that you will be able to obtain a new eTA or a new visa.

 

How this change affects visitors: ​

 

Visitors are temporary residents who do not have a valid work permit or study permit; They are tourists, students who carry out their studies for a study period of less than 6 months or business visitors.

 

In order to travel to Canada, you must:

 

- Apply for and obtain an eTA in accordance with the new rules, or ​

 

- Apply for and obtain a visitor visa. ​

 

Even if you are eligible for an eTA, your family members may still need to obtain a visa. If you're not sure which document you need, answer a few questions to find out.

 

If your family members need a visa and cannot obtain one in time for your trip, you may need to modify your travel plans.

Who can apply for an eTA according to the new rules.

 

You can qualify for an eTA if you meet each of the following 3 requirements:

 

You are using a valid Mexican passport to fly to Canada or to remain in transit at a Canadian airport to take a flight to another destination country. You are coming to visit Canada for a short time (typically for a stay of up to 6 months).

You: ​

 

You obtained a Canadian visitor visa (temporary resident visa) within the last 10 years, or you currently hold a US non-immigrant visa (NIV). ​

 

The eTA is only valid for air travel. Even if you qualify for an eTA, you will need a visitor visa if you plan to travel to Canada by car, bus, train or ship, or even by cruise ship (even if you don't disembark). ​

 

Process: ​

The Documentation is prepared, you are supported at all times, for example: your minutes have an error, we must correct this before continuing. ​
